Landscape Laborer I- Installation and Maintenance
SUMMARY: Under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled tasks in the installation, and maintenance of landscaping projects; and performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Labor assistant for installing, maintaining and cultivating landscaping

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs general landscape tasks as directed by crew leader in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Achieves tasks by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes as directed
  • Assist skilled workers to install rock, cement, lighting, water, and plantings.
  • Will be asked to load and move materials to various locations of job site.
  • Will be asked to work with basic hand tools such as shovels, rakes and brooms
  • Will be expected to be able to remove existing plant and hardscape material , such as concrete, gravel, dirt, sod, small to large shrubs and old sod.
  • May perform minor repairs using PVC solvents and cutting tools
  • Will be expected to lift heavy objects in a safe manner as trained.
  • Assist in installation of rock, cement, lighting, water features.
  • Rake, mulch, and clean the grounds as needed
  • Basic knowledge of the proper care tools of the trade.
  • Basic knowledge of irrigation system installation, repair and maintenance is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Basic knowledge of use of common hand and power tools.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to physically work an 8 hour day with required breaks in a safe and efficient manner
  • Skill in following oral instructions.
  • Skill in communicating effectively.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. We promote a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma, GED or vocational training and six (3) months related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Proper documentation. Must possess drivers license and be able to get to job sites independently.
