La Jolla Cottage Native Landscape Complete

We are just wrapping up planting on the landscape I posted pictures of a month ago. We planted a generous spread of native dune sedge which will spreads by rhizomes to form a fairly drought tolerant lawn substitute. A redwood pergola houses a bronze bas-relief sculpture. Mature toyon and lemonade berry screen the backyard from the adjacent open space. FullSizeRender-2We created a new walkway to  the front door marked by a redwood arbor. A permeable gravel driveway replaced a degraded combination of concrete and asphalt, providing a rustic feel and an environmentally friendly solution to parking needs. We planted mostly one and five gallon sized plants.  In accordance with our principles and pattern we invested in a solid irrigation infrastructure, soil preparation and thoughtful grading. The planting was mostly from one and five gallon containers which will quickly become established growing to fill out the spaces at maturity. Those with patience will find that planting from smaller container sizes ultimately yields superior, cost effective results.
